New Year, New Me, New Muscles...
I'm 5'5" and weighed around 120 pounds when I was younger. I was active but not into exercising. I figured I was blessed with good genes and would never become overweight.
After I had my daughter, I went back to my pre-pregnancy weight without a problem. However, my lack of exercise and improper diet (2 to 3 cans of Coke a day!) over the next few years caused me to gain 25 pounds. At 145, I still didn't consider myself overweight, but my body didn't look as good as it did when I was younger. I figured that's what mothers were supposed to look like so I went with it. When I became pregnant with my son, my starting weight was the same weight as I was the day I delivered my daughter--155 pounds--four years earlier. Again, I figured this is how all mothers were so I was in good company and didn't complain too much. A couple years later, I weighed around 170 pounds and quit looking at the scale. I was squeezing myself into size 12 clothes because I refused to go up since my mother wore size 14. I was in my best friend's wedding and felt horrible because the other girls were much thinner. After I got the wedding photos developed, I decided that this was the last straw.
I started walking every day with a friend and watching what I ate. I limited fatty foods and stopped drinking soda. Slowly the weight started coming off. After six months, I was down to 140 pounds. I started running, instead of walking. I maintained this weight for a couple years and felt pretty good. Then in late 2008, I started creeping up again because I just wasn't into running as much.
In January 2009, I saw Exercise TV for the first time and decided that this year I was not only going to get down to my ideal weight of 135 pounds but I was also going to strengthen and tone my body. I started doing Jillian Michaels work-outs and was surprised at how much I sweated during them. I had ran several 5Ks and 10Ks so I thought I was in good shape. What I didn't realize was that I had focused only on losing fat and not building muscle.
After one year of doing a variety of work-outs (some from Exercise TV, some not), I'm down to 135 pounds and am constantly amazed at the shape of my body. I actually have definition in my back, neck, shoulders, arms, legs, abs, and chest. I also have greater endurance and feel so much stronger! I love having the options from Exercise TV as well. I can try the work-out for free and then buy it if I absolutely love it. If I don't, then I can move on to something else without being irritated that I wasted money. I'm also able to check out different trainers and constantly challenge myself with new work-outs. It's a great option for people who don't want to join a gym but still have access to a variety of work-outs and plans. I'm so glad I discovered Exercise TV a year ago!
